In 1933, Adolf Hitler was officially appointed chancellor. Then in 1940, The American First Committee formed so that the U.S. would stay out of the Second World War. After that on December 7, 1941 the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. The bombing killed 2,300 Americans and wounded 1,200. Also in 1941, the U.S. provided Britain, the Soviet Union, and other Allies with $50 billion worth of military equipment and supplies. During most of 1942, "the Axis Powers seemed invincible."(William A DeGregorio, The Complete Book of U.S. Presidents) In 1943, Franklin D. Roosevelt had a conference with Winston Churchill. They agreed to have plans for an aerial bombardment of Germany. In October 1944, the Japanese navy was practically destroyed. FDR then died on April 12, 1945, 4 months and 21 days before World War II officially ended.

Gas Chambers- An airtight room that can be filled with poisonous gas as a means of execution.
Sterilized- not allowing to produce offspring.
Allies- the countries that fought against Germany in the Second World War. The Allies were lead by Great Britain, the Soviet Union, France, China, and the U.S.
Axis- the countries who fought against the allies in the Second World War. The Axis was made up of Germany, Italy, and Japan. At the time all of these countries had dictators as leaders.
Chancellor- the leader of a government in some countries.
